Fit

The Fast and Free fits like a second skin with zero excess material. The high-rise waistband uses a smooth, bonded edge instead of a traditional fold-over construction, which eliminates the bunching and rolling that plague many running tights during longer efforts. The waistband sits flat against the torso and stays anchored through tempo runs, hill sprints, and the repetitive motion patterns that expose poorly constructed waistbands.

The through-the-leg fit is close but not compressive — the cut follows the natural contour of the thigh and calf without restricting stride length or creating pressure points behind the knee. The 25-inch inseam hits at the ankle for most heights, and lululemon’s sizing runs true across the 0–20 range.

Fabric & Feel

Nulux is the lightest fabric in lululemon’s lineup, and the difference is immediately noticeable. Where Everlux (Wunder Train) has structure and Nulu (Align) has softness, Nulux has almost nothing — it’s engineered to disappear. The 71/29 nylon-Lycra blend is slick, cool to the touch, and so thin that it feels like running in bare legs with a UV shield.

The moisture management is exceptional. Nulux doesn’t absorb sweat — it moves it to the surface where it evaporates quickly, keeping the fabric light and the skin dry even on humid summer runs. There’s no clammy, heavy, soaked-fabric sensation that you get with cotton-blend or thicker polyester tights.

The trade-off is opacity. Nulux is thin enough that lighter colors can become sheer during deep lunges or bends. Stick to darker colorways if this concerns you.

Durability

Nulux sits between Nulu and Everlux on the durability spectrum. It won’t pill like the Align’s delicate Nulu fabric, but it also doesn’t have the tank-like resilience of Everlux. With proper care — cold wash, hang dry, no fabric softener — a pair of Fast and Frees will last 12–18 months of regular running use before showing signs of wear at the inner thighs or waistband elastic.

The seam construction is clean and flat throughout, which prevents chafing during long runs. The pocket reinforcements hold up well to the repeated stress of phone insertion and removal.

Value

At $128, the Fast and Free is lululemon’s priciest tight in the core lineup. The value depends entirely on how much you run. For three-to-five-days-a-week runners, the weightless feel and purpose-built pocket system make these worth the premium over generic running tights. For occasional joggers, the Wunder Train at $98 handles running adequately and covers more use cases.

Who It’s For

Dedicated runners who want the lightest, most invisible tight available. If you log serious mileage and prioritize a weightless, unrestricted feel over compression or sculpting, the Fast and Free is the right choice in the lululemon range. For cross-training or gym work, the Wunder Train is more versatile. For yoga and lounging, the Align is more comfortable.

What We Like

  • Nulux fabric is featherlight — genuinely feels like wearing nothing
  • No-bounce, no-shift fit designed specifically for running
  • Multiple pocket configurations keep phone and keys secure mid-stride
  • Sweat-wicking performance holds up through long runs in heat

What Could Be Better

  • Nulux shows every lump and line underneath — not the most forgiving fabric
  • Light colors are not fully opaque in deep bends
  • Premium price for a single-purpose running tight

The Verdict
Excellent
8.5

The Fast and Free is lululemon's best running tight — period. Nulux fabric disappears on the body in a way that heavier training fabrics can't match, and the pocket system is thoughtfully placed for runners. If running is your primary activity, these justify the investment.
