Fit
The Align Pant fits the way leggings are supposed to fit. The high-rise waistband — 3.5 inches wide and double-layered — holds its shape across a full yoga class without rolling down, folding inward, or creating the dreaded muffin-top effect. The cut follows the body’s natural curves without pulling or bunching at the knees. Lululemon sizes run true, and with a range from 00 to 20, the Align is one of the more inclusive options in the premium leggings market.
One caveat: the fit is designed specifically for low-impact movement. The fabric has minimal compression, which means during squats or lunges you’ll notice the fabric redistributing across the seat and thighs. This is not a squat-proof legging — it was never designed to be. Use these for yoga, pilates, walking, and lounging, and they’ll feel like a dream. Wear them for heavy leg days and you’ll wish you’d chosen something else.
Fabric & Feel
This is where the Align earns its price premium. Lululemon’s proprietary Nulu fabric is an 81/19 blend of nylon and Lycra Elastane, and the result is something that genuinely earns the overused “butter-soft” descriptor. There is a weightless, silky quality to it that no photograph or product description can fully convey. The first time you put them on, most people understand immediately why these cost $98.
Nulu is also moisture-wicking, which keeps you dry during light to moderate sweating. The fabric breathes well and dries quickly. What it lacks is any real structure — this is not a compressive or sculpting legging. If you want something that holds everything in place and smooths your silhouette, look at the Wunder Train or Fast and Free line instead. The Align simply lays against your skin with zero agenda.
Durability
Here is the honest part. The Align’s greatest weakness is longevity. The ultra-soft Nulu fabric is prone to pilling, particularly on the inner thighs and seat, and most owners begin to notice it between six months and a year of regular wear. Lululemon’s quality promise means they’ll inspect worn pairs and often offer replacements or store credit for defects, but pilling from regular friction is considered normal wear — not a defect.
Wash them inside out in cold water on a gentle cycle, avoid fabric softeners and dryer heat, and you’ll extend the lifespan considerably. But compared to more structured fabrics like Luon or Lycra-heavy blends, Nulu demands more careful maintenance. At $98 a pair, that’s worth knowing upfront.
Value
The price is genuinely hard to defend on paper. CRZ YOGA’s Butterluxe leggings offer a remarkably similar fabric experience for $28-32, and for everyday use, many people find them indistinguishable. But Lululemon does offer something the dupes don’t: consistently precise sizing, a wider range of lengths (25”, 28”, 31”), rigorous quality control, and the brand’s lifetime quality promise.
Whether that’s worth a $60-70 premium is a personal call. If you’re buying one special pair for a trip or a gift, the Align is worth every dollar. If you need five pairs for your weekly rotation, the math gets harder to justify.
Who It’s For
The Align Pant is the right choice if you practice yoga or pilates regularly and want the most comfortable legging available. It’s also excellent for travel, lounging, and any activity where comfort takes priority over performance. If you run, do HIIT, or prioritize squat-proof fabric, look elsewhere. And if you’re budget-conscious but love the idea of a butter-soft legging, the CRZ YOGA Butterluxe (reviewed separately) is worth a serious look before spending $98.
